The Registrar of Motor Vehicle Services has announced that interim paper driver’s licenses issued between Nov 1, 2024 and Jan 14, 2025 will now be valid until Feb 15, 2025.
If you received an interim license on or after Nov 1, 2024, the extension is automatic, and you don’t need to do anything.
Previous plastic AB driver’s licenses or ID cards can be kept as government-issued photo ID until your new one arrives in the mail, but you must securely destroy your previous plastic card and destroy the temporary paper driver’s license when the new card arrives. If you do not have your previous card, carry other sources of ID documents.
A card must be updated with a new address or condition code as per legislation.It remains a legislated requirement to renew your driver’s license or ID card.
